How To Properly Travel To Costa Rica?

There are many things to consider when we are planning to travel to Costa Rica. When visiting the country, we don’t need to apply for visa and we will only need a passport that doesn’t expire in the next 30 days. The immigration will deny entry for people with faded, torn and otherwise damaged passport. Tourists are allowed to stay in Costa Rica for up to 3 months without visa. However, if we plan to stay for more than 90 days, we will need to apply for an extension. Each application will be reviewed and approved based on different factors. Travellers will enter the country through the San Jose International Airport.

United Airlines, American Airlines, Lacsa, Continental Airlines, Mexicana de Aviacion, Delta Airlines, Martinair, Iberia, Copa Airlines, Taca, Spirit Airlines, US Airways and American West provide flights to Costa Rica. The average airfare to Costa Rica, as an example, from the Midwest of the US is about $500 and if we can get below that amount, we should consider it a great deal. Airfare could depend on the date of travel and it will essentially cost us a lot more during the peak season and it lasts from November to April. We should follow the same guideline when we want to purchase airline ticket out of the country.

There are many International and domestic flights in the country, so it is important for us to get the best deal possible. In this case, we should focus on flexibility and if we are flexible enough, we will likely get lower airfares. In general, we should book our flight two weeks before the trip and preferably before that, if we can get lower airfares. If possible, we should fly mid-week and it is likely that we will get better prices if we fly on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We could go online to get the best prices, from PriceLine, Sidestep, Travelocity, Orbits and various local travel websites to get the best prices,

We should also understand the customs regulation when we want to go to Costa Rica. Personal luggage shouldn’t be charged with custom duties. Costa Ricans airport officials may randomly check our baggage and travellers are required to submit the proper customs declaration forms. In peak season, the custom lines can be quite long, so we should be prepared for it. It is also a good idea to know more about the departure tax and people who want to leave the country through the airport should pay it. The cost is about $30 and it may change periodically.

It is important to make sure that we have paid the departure tax before we leave with our flight. We could be removed from the checking line if we don’t have a proper receipt. So, it is important when walking into the San Jose Airport that we check our left and right for booth pay the tax. The booth should be located near the check in counter. By being fully prepared, we should be able to easily get in and out of Costa Rica with much less difficulty.
