How To Eat Healthily In College?

Healthy eating could be among the last things that college students consider. However, for many of them, looking good and more energized is usually at the forefront. It is clear that our health depends significantly on our daily diet. In this case, students should start paying more attention to things that they are eating. Many college students are simply pressed for time, stressed out and very busy. They often skip meals and when they do eat, they often consume too many calories. Students should start taking charge of their eating habit, so they will be able to cope with stress and perform much better in the classroom.

The first thing that they should do is having a good breakfast. It is a big fallacy to eat only pancakes, fried sausage, eggs, waffle, maple syrup and bacon during breakfast. It is often necessary to have decent breakfast and like many people have said, it’s the most important meal of the day. Breakfast will allow us to jumpstart our metabolism, so our body will burn more calories for the whole day. When people skip breakfast, their body will enter the starvation mode, some of the essential body functions will be scaled down to reduce energy consumption. For students who don’t have enough time to prepare for a breakfast, they could eat fruits chopped the previous night. Combined with some bread and a glass of milk, this will be a really healthy breakfast.

It is found that students who skip breakfast are more likely to struggle with various scholastic achievements. When we have low blood sugar levels, our body will think that a period of starvation has begun and it will start stockpile fat and burn muscles for energy. This is a bad situation for our body. We will have less muscle mass and more fat layer. If possible, students should have real food starting from breakfast, not just bars and cereals. Due to the busy lifestyle and their immediate availability around the college campus, fast food is inevitable. In this case, it is important to choose wisely.

Some pizzas and burgers contain more vegetables and less meat. We should also go to fast food vendors that use lighter cheese. It is also important to avoid high-fat offerings, such as pastries, chicken wing and French fries. We should be on the lookout for fake health foods that are actually junk foods. When going to fast food joints, we should go to those with salad bar. In this case, we could put a lot of fruits and vegetables in the bowl. However, we should still go easy on the rich dressing and croutons. We should also monitor the intake of sodas and coffees, although real fruit juices with no sugar are healthy.

Due to the relative freedom in the college campus, alcohol intake will likely be higher. Many alcoholic beverages, like beers, have high calorific content with little to no nutritional values. College students should avoid binge drinking, because this could cause problems with education performance. When alcohol is involved, people will have less inhibitions, making it easier for them to consume tons of junk food.
