Studying shouldn’t be a never-ending process, when it comes to studying about specific topics. In this case, we should limit the duration of our studying sessions and this should help in memory retention. This could take a bit of experimentation on our part. Study sessions can be performed in several periods, like 25 minutes followed by 5 minutes of rest. In a couple of hours, we would be able to perform four separate studying sessions. During the 5-minute rest, we could walk to the windows and stare at the clouds and distant objects.
After a couple of hours, we can do a longer rest session, such as lying down on the bed for 15 minutes before starting another 2-hour learning session. However, if we still feel somewhat energized, like walking briskly on the pavement next to the road. At the end of the day, we should review what we have covered today and take note about things that we still find difficult to understand and solve. We may also use the studying session to create our own illustration or infographics about specific subjects. With good time management, many students are able to perform exceptionally well in school. By adjusting our schedules, we will be free from interruptions, because we will study when the home or dorm is quieter.
Use visual cues
Students with better visual comprehension should have a distinct advantage when they study for exams and important assignments. They could use graphs and other hand-drawn illustration as memory joggers. In this case, they may also use highlighters, pens and colored pencils. In fact, drawing stick figures that say something important could help to jog our memories when trying to remember complicated formulas and text.
We should study one part at a time
It is important to note that things we are studying are only a part of the whole picture. It is a bad idea trying to learn everything. In any case, we won’t be able to cope with innumerable demands in life. After all, we often need to deal with one convoluted concept and complex formula. In some cases, it could take an entire day to approach the formula from all angles, until we understand how to use it.
It is acceptable to snack lightly
Another good practice is keeping some light snacks and cool drink. We could choose something healthy, such as trail mix, raw veggies and nuts. Instead of coffee or soda, we could drink cool lemon tea that could refresh our throat after a longer period of studying. This could be quite satisfying and won’t upset chemical balance in our body.
Watch out for temptations
Studying has some similarities with meditation. In this case, we should be aware of a myriad of things that can distract us. There are real-world concerns that students may constantly think about, such as social interactions and entertainment objects. By knowing how to negate temptation, we will be better able to manage our studying time. We will be better able to cope with anything life may throw at us.
