7 Enlightening Ways To Reduce Wrinkles

Having wrinkles is one of most women’s worst nightmares. Why do we get wrinkles in the first place? Wrinkles are the result of the loss of collagen in the skin. Collagen is a form of protein that is found in the skin, bones, connective tissues and more. Collagen provides structure, support, and strength to our body. In short, collagen keeps our body together. Unfortunately, collagen is depleted as we age.

Almost everyone wishes to have a youthful glow as long as possible. However, having wrinkle-free skin has become a commodity for the rich or those who are brave enough to spend a hefty amount of money for skin care products and procedures. If you are not willing to spend your hard earned money on expensive anti-wrinkle creams, do not worry. There are things that you can do to reduce wrinkles without breaking the bank. Here are some of them:

1. Eat Lots of Fruits and Vegetables

We all know that fruits and vegetables offer countless benefits to our body. Fruits that are rich in vitamins C and E are great for the skin. Research shows that Vitamins C and E are effective antioxidants that help ward off wrinkles and dull complexion. Eating fruits and vegetables will surely make you look good inside and out. Foods that are rich in Vitamin C are citrus fruits, bell peppers, kale, kiwi, and broccoli. On the other hand, spinach, nuts, squash, and avocado are top sources of Vitamin E.

2. Smile

Say no to frown lines and crow’s feet by wearing a smile as opposed to a frown. We use more muscles to frown than to smile, so show off those pearly whites. This simple technique can save you thousands of dollars and tons of frustration in getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles.

3. Protect your Skin from Harmful Rays of the Sun

UV rays can be blamed for skin aging, wrinkles and skin pigmentation disorder. A study that was conducted by Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology proved that 80.3% of skin aging is caused by sun exposure. Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen. Use products, such as face powders; that have sunscreen for added protection. Using wide-brimmed hat will also keep the sun away from your face. Skin pigmentation disorder is as annoying as wrinkles so protect your face.

4. Avoid Stress

Wrinkles and other signs of aging can also be caused by stress. Stress is a silent killer that makes our body produce antioxidants which are not good for the skin and our overall health. Find a stress reliever that is effective for you. This could be as simple as singing, deep breathing, or having a good laugh. Anything that helps you get less stressed out will help maintain that youthful glow.

5. Moisturize

The market is saturated with facial moisturizers that promise to help reduce wrinkles. However, the best facial moisturizer can be found in your cupboard. Massage a spoonful of olive oil to your face and get the benefits that you can get from expensive anti-wrinkle creams without spending an arm and a leg. Olive oil contains vitamin E that is very effective in warding off wrinkles and fine lines. Olive oil moisturizer is not only great for wrinkles, but it is also useful for maintaining healthy skin.

6. Invest in your Pillowcase

We spend a lot of time sleeping; this is why investing in a pillowcase with higher thread count is worth every penny. It might cost you a little bit of money at first but in the long run, this will save you a lot of money and frustration. Fabrics with higher thread count are smoother and mild to the skin and are less likely to cause wrinkles.

7. Avoid Smoking

Smoking is harmful to your health, but it does not only destroy you from the inside but it also slowly ruins your skin. Smoking can age you by nine years, studies show. The worst part is, smoking does not only cause facial wrinkles but can wrinkle every skin in your body. Smoking does not only cause wrinkles, but it also causes dull complexion. Cigarette contains nicotine and other chemicals that cause constriction of blood vessels. This limits the supply of blood and nutrients to the skin. If you are a smoker, it is best to quit as soon as possible and give your skin time to recover.
