7 Tips You Must Know Before Wearing Contact-Lenses For The First Time

Just like grocery, apparel, medicines etc.; now contact lenses are also available online in India. Before you order your first pair of contact lenses, read these tips to make an informed buying decision.

Consult an ophthalmologist: If ever you have had any vision-related problems, you should consult your ophthalmologist before buying coloured contact lenses. Ill-fitted lenses may result in discomfort or may even damage the eyes in the long run. Through an eye-examination, the doctor will help you know which prescription fits your eyes correctly. Further, remember that the readings of an eyeglass prescription differ from that of contact-lenses. Hence, do not skip the visit to the doctor and use the eye-glass prescription as a substitute to a contact-lens prescription.

Buy from established sources:  If you plan to buy contact lenses online, make sure you choose a reputed store while making a purchase. Read the testimonials and return policy before placing the order. As advised on Medical Daily.com, “don’t buy contacts from any store or website that doesn’t require an eye doctor’s prescription. In other words, if you can walk in off the street, or log-on to a website and buy them without verification of your prescription, the lenses are not being sold legally.”

Not to be worn 24X7: Unless and until prescribed by your doctor and manufactured according to medical guidelines, contact lenses are not to be worn for prolonged time-periods. If you plan to wear these daily, ensure to limit your usage to 6-8 hours.

Remove the lenses while sleeping and swimming: Sleeping with your lenses on may damage your eyes. On the other hand, swimming without removing the eye-lenses may result in an eye-infection. Water in the pool contains bacteria which can get trapped in the lens, thus causing infectivity.

Re-usable or disposable: Many first-time online lens buyers get confused between buying re-usable and disposable contact lenses. If you find cleaning and disinfecting the lenses daily a bit of a hassle, then choose disposable lenses. The cost of using both types of lenses is more or less similar. Do not use reusable lenses once the expiry date is over.

Check for lubrication and other allergies: “Contact lenses may not be a good option for people who suffer from repeated eye infections or allergies, are exposed to large amounts of dust, or have dry eyes. Wearing contact lenses with such conditions could cause further complications and problems,”says an article on sightsaversindia.in. On the other hand, it should be noted that wearing contact lenses for the first time may cause dryness and blurry-vision. Your ophthalmologist may prescribe a lubricating liquid to correct this problem.

Compare Prices: Who wouldn’t like to buy contact lenses online at reasonable price-points? To do this, compare prices on some of the reputed online eyewear stores and buy what suits your pocket and eyes the best.
