Mumbai City FC was launched in the year 2014 in the inaugural season of Indian Super League, and it is based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The franchise of the company is collectively owned by new age Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor and Mr. Bimal Parekh, a local Chartered Accountant. The locals call their team as ‘Aamchi Mumbai or ‘Blue Team’ which is also the official nickname of the team.
The logo for the team is designed very creatively, as the team name is depicted on top of a train, which symbolizes the lifeline of the city and the seven stars symbolize the seven Islands that form Mumbai. The Mumbai football arena is the current home ground of the club; previously it was DY Patil Stadium.

Mumbai City FC received the best response from the fans during the inaugural season of the ISL in 2014. Former Arsenal star Freddie Ljungberg was the first marquee player to the club, but unfortunately, Mumbai City finished 7th by the end of the season in 2014. Though Mumbai city failed to give a signature performance in ISL until 2016, the side is filled with star players from across the globe. The very first hat-trick maker of the ISL in 2014 against Pune FC Andre Moritz is a direct booking from Brazil. But Unfortunately, Andre is no longer associated with the team. Nicolas Anelka was another French legend who was associated with the team for the first two seasons. During the second season of ISL in 2015, he also managed the team apart from being the marquee player.
